I am going to tell you something you do not want to hear. Are you ready?
You are too close to your business.
Many owners/founders are far too deep in the day-to-day work of running their business to step far enough back to look objectively at their business. Some of you reading this right now are not taking vacations or missing family time because you are still bogged down in the details even though you have been in business for a few years now.
There is a shift that must happen for all owners at some point that moves them from being “Workers” to “Leaders” and it can be the most psychologically stressful. It requires delegating to others to take on the work so you can lead the vision.
That shift requires you to step back…far enough back that you can be objective about where you came from, where you are, and where you want to be. You must be able to view your business with the same detachment that any potential investor would. You need to understand where you are growing value and where you are burning capital. You should be evaluating risk and planning strategically for challenges and opportunities.
You need to zoom out to see the landscape and understand the path forward.
If you are swamped with being a Worker, you simply cannot put in the time and effort needed to evaluate your company effectively. If you are too close, you cannot see the bigger picture. As a Leader, your view must be broader and truly objective to see where you come from and where you are going, and how to lead your company forward.
Recommendation
You may not need a consultant.

You may need a vacation. You may need to take some time away and allow others to take on the tasks that you are swamped with and get the feedback from another perspective.
You may need to hire more full or part time help to shoulder some of the work you are doing that is keeping you from seeing the whole picture.
